Pedong Tourist Destination
Pedong is a small village situated in the hills at the border of West Bengal and Sikkim, located on the historic Silk Route connecting India and Tibet. The nearest major town is Kalimpong, located 22 km away. It takes about 3 hours to reach Pedong from Siliguri (approx. 100 km) via shared jeeps or buses. Jeep fare is about ₹120 and bus fare ₹90. A direct bus from NJP departs around 2 PM.

The usual route follows NH 31 through Mahananda Reserve Forest, Kalijhora, Rambhi, and Teesta to Kalimpong, then via Algara to Pedong (₹50). Reserved cars cost around ₹2800. An alternate route via Garubathan, Neora Valley, and Lava costs around ₹4000 (round trip).
Where to Stay
Visitors can stay at Dam Sang Lodge or Moktan Eldorado Lodge, both offering food and lodging. Homestays are also available for an immersive local experience.
Climate and Best Time to Visit
At 1200 meters elevation, Pedong offers cool summers and misty monsoons. Monsoon months (June–July) can cause landslides. Spring and autumn offer ideal weather and panoramic Himalayan views. Winters are cold but clear.

Pedong is a great base to explore Rishop, Lava, Sillery Gaon (nicknamed New Darjeeling), Cross Hill viewpoint, Damsang Fort (Damsang Gadi), Sangchen Dorjee Monastery, Tin Chuley, and the Reshi River. Nathula Pass trips may require military permission.
